OSC Steak Feed 2011

The 2011 Oregon Sportsman's Club Steak Feed was a success as a large crowd enjoyed a good meal, cold beverages and a ton of raffle prizes.

Shawn checks out the grand prizes. Everyone had their eyes on the AR15.

The Local 505 didn't go home empty handed. Shawn won a deluxe George Foreman Grill and The Big Bobber Floating Cooler. John was the lucky recipient of a Chevrolet hooded sweatshirt.

Amy and Ranae were slightly amused by Shawn and John's raffle ticket obsession.

KMH kept the good times rollin' from behind the bar.

Week 12: Mr. Top Gun

The Local 505 has shot its final league night of the season. Mike not only closed down the season as the weekly Top Gun he's also getting his named etched on the back of the highly coveted L. Wilcox trophy as the 2011 UCB Top Gun. Congrats Mike and way to work brothers of the UCB Local 505.

UCB Local 505 Gives Back

The United Clay Busters of America are donating a couple of prizes for the upcoming OSC Steak Feed can raffle. The first prize is a Igloo Ice Cube cooler with a 90 can capacity. This gem features: four drink holders molded into lid for added convenience, wheels and locking telescoping handle can be pulled or pushed, molded-in side handles for lifting in/out of vehicle, and recessed drain plug makes emptying melted ice a cinch.

To ensure every Sportsman gets to where they're going on time we've also donated a 10.5 inch United Clay Busters of America wall clock. Battery included.

And last but not least a delicious bottle of brandy as a token of our appreciation to the OSC Trap Shooting Activity Director.

Week 11: God Bless the OSC

The UCB Local 505 couldn't ask for a nicer August night to wreak havoc on a couple hundred clay targets. Mild temps and calm winds made up for the melting pot we shot in last week. John earned the Top Gun award for week 11 and Alex was missing in action due to business travel.

Harps said enough is enough and brought out the heavy hitter this week. Lucky for him the Air Force's Predator drone wasn't flying over at the time.

Curt invited Brett, a long-time friend, out to the club and hoped he would bring him some good shooting luck. You can see by the photo that didn't pan out to well. Hope they had better luck at cards.

The sharp crack of the week 11 shotguns marked the end of the season for John and Curt as they will be traveling on business next week. This blogger is feeling very sentimental on closing down another season. Here's to seven great seasons of trap shooting and God bless the Oregon Sportsman's Club.

Week 10: One Hot and Muggy S.O.B.

The ol' Hook Lake swamp land was broiling hot on this steamy August night. The Local 505 T-shirts were wringing wet and we had sweat running down cracks and crevices not normally spoken about on the trap line. Alex and his trusty Browning were also hot as he crushed the most clay earning him the weekly team Top Gun award. Great job Schmalzy.

OSC Member of the Week

The Local 505 is honored to feature KMH as the OSC Member of the Week. Kevin is a long time follower of the UCB blog and currently the most active person leaving comments. (I think TK got bored with us and is now sharing her talents with Twitter Nation.) Kevin does an amazing job running the sporting clay events at the club as well teaching the hunter safety classes. I had the pleasure to shoot a round of sporting clays with Kevin last year and I'm still in awe of how fast and furious he shoots. I just read the latest OSC newsletter and saw KMH shot 49 out of 50 sporting clay targets. He's the real deal boy.

Week 9: Boom, Boom, Boom.

The UCB Local 505 left piles of dead clay in their wake as they rolled through the ninth week of league shooting. For the first time in the team's history there was a three-way tie for Top Gun of the Week. Mike, Curt and John had the same score but Alex and Shawn were within a bird or two. Needless to say a very consistent night on the line for the United Clay Busters of America.

OSC Member of the Week

Mr. Severson has once again been named the OSC Member of the Week. Cale shot a perfect score this week and the Local 505 appreciates a man who knows how to get work done. A perfect score at the challenging OSC trap fields is a true feat and for that we congratulate you. Bravo Cale.

Week 8: Bringing the Heat

The UCB and Mother Nature each provided plenty of heat in Week 8. Temperatures hovered around 95º at shooting time and the Local 505 posted our highest team score of the year. John earned the Top Gun honor but the entire team was one or two birds apart. Keep crushing those birds and we'll pull ourselves back into the running.

L to R: Shawn, Mike, John, Alex, and Curt.

OSC Member of the Week

This week we have selected one of our own to be the OSC Member of the Week. This high honor goes to the one and only Clubhouse Curt. He lived up to his name in week seven by bringing up our team moral, initiating our first 500 card game of the year, and of course by closing down the clubhouse bar. Great to have you back with the team CC.

Week 7: A Fresh Start

Week seven marks the beginning of the second half of the season. The teams have been divided into classes based on their first half team scores and the run for the title is on. Mike and his SKB had a big night as he posted his highest individual score in over two years. This fine shooting earned Mike the UCB Top Gun of the Week award.

The UCB made the double AA class again but we'll have to work hard to contend for a championship. There are some real heavy hitters in AA.

Recognize the man on the left? Yes Curt is all healed from his surgery and had a fine night of shooting. He's enjoying a cold beverage with Jeff and Shawn.

Rick and Ron from the Jake and the Fat Men taking care of business on a beautiful night in southern Wisconsin.

Week 6: The Schmalzinator

Week six provided what may have been the best weather conditions the UCB Local 505 has ever shot in. A beautiful 78 degrees, sunshine and absolutely no wind. Alex stepped up his game in a big way and posted a score that was 6-7 birds above his weekly average. This fine display of shooting earned Mr. Schmalz the UCB Top Gun of the Week award. Way to work Alex – job well done.

Saturday Open Shooting

The handicap round has has been killing my average this year so I took advantage of the open shooting at the club and worked a few glitches out.
I took a stroll through the trap field and was shocked to see how many full targets have BB holes through them. Wondering if these chips were visible or if these were just dusters.

OSC Member of the Week

It would be un-American of us not to make the man who serves us cold beer and dog dishes full of peanuts the OSC Member of the Week. Tony is the clubhouse bartender on Tuesday nights and greets the Local 505 with a friendly, "Hello Gentlemen." Tony is the Captain of the Wisconsin River Pirates and is one hell of a good guy. Thanks for volunteering behind the bar Tony.

Week 5: Thunderstruck

Scattered thunderstorms rolled through South Central Wisconsin tonight but luckily we were able to get our shooting in just before the rain started. We took shelter in the clubhouse and let the rain roll through before going out and scoring for team Jake and the Fat Men. The Top Gun award for week 5 was shared between Mike and John.

Here's our shameless attempt to land a team sponsor. PBR and UCB are a match made in Heaven. Please send all sponsorship offers directly to our agent.

OSC Member of the Week

It was only a matter of time before Cale was named Oregon Sportsman's Club Member of the Week. Cale is a good buddy of the UCB Local 505 and a hell of a good shooter. No matter how windy or how poor the lighting conditions, Cale consistently hammers the #@$&! out of the birds. He has a couple of OSC championship hats and is well on his way to earning another one this year.

Week 4

The Local 505 was the first team on the line this evening. Mike lead the team and earned the prestigious Top Gun award for week 4. We've been shooting in the missing man formation this spring as Curt recovers from a recent surgery. Get well soon CC.

Rock Star parking always available on the lower range.

OSC Member of the Week

Say hello to Jeff – a new member to the OSC. Jeff filled a vacant spot on the Wisconsin River Pirates and is shooting his first official season of trap. By trade Jeff is an internet designer/developer at Shine and is probably the nicest guy you'll ever meet. Welcome to the club Jeff and good luck this season.

Week 3: Working the Late Shift

The UCB Local 505 worked the late shift in week three of our twelve week league. On a day with 100 degree temperatures and 20+ mph winds the late shift provided really nice shooting conditions. The wind diminished and we had a lot cooler temps. Unfortunately our team scores looked like we shot in F5 tornado. We did however treat ourselves to a round from the 27 yard line which always proves to be fun shooting. Congrats to Alex and Mike for Co-Top Gun awards for week 3. Harps and Hanke were MIA and missed closing down the clubhouse with Mr. Severson.

OSC Member of the Week

I've decided to add a new installment to the 2011 blogging efforts and it's called, "Oregon Sportsman's Club Member of the Week." The first recipient of this high honor is Jacob from team Jake and the Fat Men. Jacob was kind enough to take our team photo on Tuesday evening and that good deed has earned him a spot on our blog as well as a 5 x 7" glossy photo of himself and his shotgun courtesy of the Oregon Walgreens photo department.

Week 2 – The Mötley Crüe

The Local 505 was a man down tonight as Curt was M.I.A. for some much needed R&R. The remaining four UCB members took their spots on stage and rocked out on some clay targets. From LtoR: Alex, Shawn, Mike and John. The week 2 Top Gun was John. Next week is a holiday bye so no official league shoot.

Week 1. Wind blows.

Alex was the UCB top gun in week one. The wind made for some challenging shots and below average scores to say the least. Alex is standing on a stump in this photo but I had to crop it out. I'll email anyone the full image if they're interested.

Here's the newest member of the Wisconsin River Pirates. Jeff shot well and has the makings of a great trap shooter in the very near future.

A tasty adult beverage helps calm the nerves before we shoot. Just kidding. We're never nervous.

Ready. Aim. FIRE!!

The UCB Local 505 finally made it out to the club for our first bank night. Unseasonably warm weather made for a great night of shooting. Our thoughts were with Curt and hope he's back on the line with us very soon.

Generation W

A Tuesday night in April with temperatures hovering around 50 degrees were more than enough reasons to head out to the club. Big Will loaded up his Mossberg and received some valuable coaching and insight from the reining club champion, Cale Severson. Many thanks Cale. As for me, well I was humbled by my old friend the 23 yard line. I think it's time to get serious and put some major lead down range. Hoorah.

3.24.11 Gunpowder and Lead

March 24 marks the first time this Local 505 member fired a shotgun in 2011. Yes, sad but true. A guy knows he's not giving his firearms enough attention when he can barely remember the combination to his gun safe. It felt great to unleash the Citori after spending a long winter in the Man Cave reloading 350lbs of lead and 1.5 kegs of gunpowder. Only 40 days until our first bank night.
