Copa Aguila 2016 - Guadalajara, Mexico

September 23, 2016: United Clay Busters of America members, Alex Schmalz and John Krull, ventured to Guadalajara, Mexico for the second annual Copa Aguila sporting clay tournament. Copa Aguila was a three day event that included four separate shoots – three sporting clay tournaments and a four-course five-stand competition. The event was held at Club Cinegético Jalisciense which is approximately 10 miles west of Guadalajara. “The club was an incredible facility and the Mexican shooters were a pleasure to shoot with,” said Krull “Getting the proper permits to bring your firearms into Mexico and navigating customs, immigration, and the Federal Police was definitely an interesting experience.” Club Cinegético Jalisciense

Sport Products 2016 Class AA Champions

A big congratulations to Sport Products on winning the 2016 Class AA title. They beat the Local 505 by two birds in the championship shoot off. Really fun watching these guys shoot. Great season Bryan, Pat, Steve, Ron, and Bob!

Week 12 Report

The Local 505 took their first official team selfie in week 12 of the 2016 season. The boys gave it their all but came up short of the red hot Sport Products. Stu would be proud of how his old team rallied in the second half of the season to force a shoot out for the 2016 Class AA championship. The championship will likely be decided the week of August 29. #KeepYourBarrelsWarm505

Week 12 Bartender Cam: This bartender really enjoyed having the Sons of Liberty at the club this season. It was a good reflection of the excitement the Local 505 experienced back in 2005. Good luck in college and work gents and we'll see you next spring.

Ladies Night

Signature Ladies & Nacho showed up tonight to shoot a rain out makeup score. It was great to have some fresh faces on our Tuesday trap league. Say hello to Becki, Kris, Nacho, Kelly, and Mary. Also present but not photographed were Fred, Kev, and Bailey.

The Class AA Rumble In The Jungle

The Local 505 and Sport Products are battling for the Class AA title like a couple of heavy-weight prize fighters. Sports Products dominated round one and the Local 505 battled back and delivered crushing blows in rounds 2-9. Sport Products rocked the Local 505 with a big right hook in round 10 that brought the crowd to their feet. Sport Products now has staggering lead on the judges score cards with only two rounds remaining in the fight. Don't count out either team until the final bell rings. #TightedTheGloves

Week 8 Report

The Local 505 maintains a slight lead on Sport Products for the 2nd half class AA title. It's definitely down to a two-horse race and only four weeks and 2,000 birds left to determine the 2nd half champion.

Note: This photo has nothing to do with the week 8 post. This blogger just likes to burn the cardboard with a torch at the end of the night and it's the only picture taken this evening.

Week 7

Feeling fortunate to be able to pursue our passions and share the camaraderie of our fellow club members. Our hearts go out to the Dallas police officers and all victims of senseless violence.

Sir James Lutz wins the award for the coolest shell bag. Way to represent.

Bartender Cam: Busted by Dan. Need to work on my stealth camera skills.

Bye Week

The Local 505 had a bye week in celebration of America's birthday so this blogger took advantage of the beautiful evening and got acquainted with Aguila's high-velocity trap loads. These rounds are really fun to shoot from handicap distances as there are lightning fast - 1350 fps fast. #FeedYourFirearm

Week 6 - Half Way Point

The Local 505 officially wrapped up the first half of the 2016 trap season and unofficially have also captured the six-week Class AA title. Win the second six-week title they're the champions. Loose the second half and the Class AA championship will be determined by a shoot off.

Bartender Cam: Dean shared some colorful stories about his past adventures in Mexico and Panama.

Week 5 - June+

June is awesome in Wisconsin. The Local 505 put up another solid score and have their eyes on the first-half AA title. Shawn shot well and is seen here scoring up team F.A.T.

Shawn also found one pissed off little turtle and transplanted his him back to Hook Lake.

Bartender Cam: Pepper Retzleff chilling out on the cool clubhouse floor.

Signature Construction 2016

Signature Construction, a former Class AA rival of the Local 505, has a new look in 2016. Kent Marshall is gone. Fred Clark stepped in. Swanky new beige shooting shirts. And a lot of pump shotguns. LtoR: Kevin, John, Ben, Chuck, and Fred.

UCB Week 4 - And The Thunder Rolled

The Local 505 set a personal team record tonight but it took a couple of tasty bank scores to do it - Alex and Harps were M.I.A. on business. Thunderstorms split the club all night but finally let loose on the handicap round. A few raindrops didn't slow the United Clay Busters of America down as the birds kept flying and kept dying.

Team F.A.T. (Firearms. Alcohol. Tobacco.) shot the first shift tonight and we're banging away as thunder rolled in the distance.

Week 4 Bartender Cam: Good conversation with Dan and Ed Hefty tonight. Topics covered: corn prices, GPS, modern day farming, Phelps Implement, Greene IA, dog training, pheasant hunting in South Dakota, the finer points of road hunting, mules, and the Sons of Liberty shooting abilities.

Week 3 - Stop and Smell the Gunpowder

Another beautiful night at the Oregon Sportsman's Club made this shooter stop and smell the gunpowder. It's great to step out of the daily routine and give these clay targets some holy hell. The Local 505 closed the deficit with Sport Products and it looks like a two horse race for the first half AA crown.

Week 3 Bartender Cam: Will Krull and the Sons of Liberty were sporting their new team shirts tonight. #bonafide

FEAR THE HOOK

The Local 505 took advantage of the holiday bye week to make up their bank scores and Jared Hook pulverized his way to a 99 out of 100 this evening. Jared stated that his goal wasn't to just break the birds tonight, he wanted total alienation of the targets - which he did quite well. Great shooting and congratulations Jared.

Thankful the Red Dogs were on hand to score for us tonight or people would have doubted this second round score sheet. One for the archives indeed. Six perfect rounds were shot by three Local 505 members tonight!

Week 2: Man Cannons

The Local 505 brought the heat in the second week of the 2016 trap season. Perfect weather + perfect light = a lot of dead birds.

Congrats to Jared for handicapping back to the 23-yard line and running them. His first 25 with major style points.

Week 2 Bartender Cam: Say hello to Dan and Kiernan Connery who are new members at the club this year. They joined the JC Electric trap team tonight and Kiernan shot 40 out of 50 on his second time shooting trap. A bowl of peanuts, a pizza, a bag of Fritos, a beef stick, and out shooting your dad at trap – priceless.

Week 1 is done…

Not a lot to report on the Local 505 shooting in week one. I'll leave it at that. Sport Products put a monster score on the board and have their sights set on the AA championship.

Week Two Bartender Cam: Shawn is explaining to Will the girl-to guy-ratio at various Midwest colleges.

Gobbler Bustin'

Local 505 member Jared Hook filled his tag yesterday morning with this bodacious 21 lbs tom that sported a 10" beard. Nice work Jared.

Throw Back Thursday - 2009

Ryan and John Krull shot a few rounds of trap at the OSC in 2009. This photo was before the trap storage shed was built and features the old fence and skeet house. Big congratulations to Ryan on graduating from the University of Wisconsin this Saturday. #ProudPapa

Bank Night No. 2 - Local 505 M.I.A.

There's a new young guns team banging away on Tuesday nights this trap season. Say hello to the newly formed "Sons of Liberty." These guys have solid gun skills and will be putting the hurt on a lot of birds this season. From left to right: James (aka Karen), Will, Lucas, Brandon, and Cole. Good luck gentlemen.

A new weekly feature in 2016 will be the "bartender cam." Tonight a new team of Monday nighters showed up to shoot a bank score. Meet the Oregon based team, "Thugs & Slugs." From left to right: Josh, Mike, Ron, and Jeff.

A 12 Gauge Baptism

First year Sons of Liberty shooter, Will Krull, attended the church of trap this evening and was preached to by Father John from the good book of keeping your head down and swinging through the bird. Will saw the light and praised the trap lords after pounding through a few boxes of Aguila Ammunition. Shoot in peace my son. Shoot in peace.

Bank Week 1

Bank week one turned into practice week one followed by a Jared Hook trick shooting clinic. Please note: Sport Products has the Local 505's full attention as they posted a monster team score on Monday night. #AA
