Week 5 – Shoulda Woulda Coulda

The Local 505 had a skeleton crew in Week 5 as three members had work commitments. John and Shawn held the line but made no advances up the hill. Next week is a holiday bye week.

Put That in the Bank

The UCB shot a special Monday night edition this week as Hanke and Harps needed to make up their bank scores due to some upcoming client travel. Shawn was the Top Gun and he was forced to shoot in flip flops due to a hockey skate accident. Looks like you found your new trap shooting footwear Harps. Nice shooting.

Saturday Afternoon Delight

This blogger had Taxi duty this afternoon as his son and three other teenage boys needed a ride home from the Wisconsin Dells. It just so happens the Sauk-Prairie Trap and Skeet Club was right on the way and this Taxi driver brought along his shotgun.

It's no secret among the Local 505 shooters that the Sauk-Prairie targets seem like cream puffs compared to shooting trap at the Oregon Sportsman's Club. The photo above represents three reasons why.

1. The back of the trap house is only 20 inches tall or just below knee high. Compare that to the OSC houses that are at least waist high. I believe the shooter picks up the target so much earlier in it's flight path out of the Sauk-Prairie trap house.

2. Notice the background behind where the targets fly. The background is so clean they use targets with black edges for contrast against the clean skyline.

3. The Sauk-Praire trap machines are calibrated with a speed gun for consistency.

Wireless speakers make everything simplier. The big green remote control is referred to as "the pickle."

Week 4 – The Fashion Recall

The UCB Local 505 were down two men this evening as Hanke and Krull had previous commitments and used bank scores. The rest of the team battled 20mph south winds which made for challenging shooting.

The photo above signifies that Alex was the UCB Week 4 Top Gun. He posted a high score under tough shooting conditions and for that we salute you Mr. Schmalz. Alex may have also found his lucky charm; dress shoes, shorts and no socks. Either he had a client meeting today and forgot to pack his shooting shoes or he is becoming very, very European.

Race to the Championship

Week three in our trap season signifies the halfway point in the six week title chase and ensures you a shot at the overall championship. The United Clay Busters are currently in third place and closing on the SS Boys and Signature Construction. Time to stand on the gas Local 505 and put some lead on those targets.

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads in UCB land.

Photo of the Week

Deep within the bowels of the trap house the high flyers await their release to the lions.

Week 3 – The Contender

The challenge for this blogger is finding new and unique ways to photograph Mike for the weekly UCB Local 505 Top Gun Award. Mike really hammered the birds once again this evening which makes me start to wonder if he's going to make a big run for the OSC 2012 Top Gun title. How awesome would it be to see a Local 505er on top of the leader board at the end of the season? He's coming for your hat Cale.

UPDATE: to give you an idea of how well Mike is shooting, he has only missed one bird from the 16 yard line in the last five weeks of shooting. That includes the two bank nights and three league nights. Awesome shooting Mike. NOTE TO TERI: please share whatever recipe you are preparing for dinner on Tuesday nights. Thanks.

Curt and Alex had rock solid nights on the line this evening. The Local 505 put a blistering 224 on the score board tonight. Nice shooting brothers.

I'm nominating Jeff Szpak for the most improved Oregon Sportman's Club member. Not only is Jeff killing it on the range he's also slaying them in the clubhouse. Jeff has been a great addition to the club.

UPDATE: Jeff is in the dog house this morning but assures us he's alive and doing well.

A big United Clay Busters of America • Local 505 congratulations to Cale and Ashley. They tied the knot on Saturday and here's wishing them all the best.

OSC Sporting Clay Event

The Oregon Sportsman's Club held a sporting clay event on Saturday. Kevin Hermanson does an amazing job setting up the course. Incredibly challenging and fun as hell to shoot. I now have a love hate relationship with the mini 60mm target. The station threw a report pair straight up in the air. The targets looked like they were 50-yards away but were actually only around 15-yards out. Note to self: Shoot more sporting clays in the future.

Week 2: Kriefski Dominates

Mike earned the Week 2 Top Gun title in a landslide this evening. He and his lady friend (the SKB 12ga) were in tune and on target tonight. The rest of the team did work but not AA quality scores.

The new team colors look outstanding hunkered next to the clubhouse bar. I love it when a plan comes together.

This conversation was not suitable for the general public and was censored from the blog. If you were wondering, Alex was leading the dialog. Chive on Schmalzy.
